Halkyn 3 v Rhewl 2
Halkyn played their first game of the new year on a remarkably good home pitch and fielded a strong squad of sixteen players with a few absentees!! This was our first game for nearly five weeks but it was pleasing to note that the layoff had not impacted on the teams fitness levels although waist sizes are another thing!!
The home team played some excellent possession football but lacked the killer touch in and around the penalty box. Against the run of play and as a result of a defensive mix up Rhewl took the lead and when the teams turned round at half time the score remained the same. A rousing team talk and a few drags on cigarettes gave Halkyn the boost but as usual we were the orchestrater of our own demise and again gifted the opposition another goal.
There then followed the come backs of all come backs with Cohen and John linking up well up front and we were able to take the lead in the last five minutes. Goals came from Cohen twice and an own goal from the Rhewl defender.
Overall an excellent performance, good attitude and most importantly an enjyaoyable game.
